Richard D. Bland, MD, professor of pediatrics (neonatology), was awarded an honorary doctorate of medicine from Uppsala University for his research related to lung fluid balance during development and pulmonary edema in the pathogenesis of newborn lung disease. Bland, who joined Stanford two years ago, is with the Wall Center for Pulmonary Vascular Disease.

Stuart B. Goodman,
MD, PhD, professor of orthopedic surgery, was selected by the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering as an “honorary fellow biomaterials science and engineering.” Goodman will receive the designation at the opening of the 7th World Biomaterials Congress May 17, in Sydney, Australia.

David K. Stevenson, MD, the Harold K. Faber Professor of Pediatrics and senior associate dean for academic affairs, was elected vice president/president-elect of the American Pediatric Society for 2004-05. Next year he will assume the role of president of the organization, the oldest U. S. pediatric research society.
