Publications, commercial spot win awards for excellence
Five bronze. Five silver. Four gold. Two grand gold.
In an international competition equivalent to the Olympics for people who work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising and marketing at educational institutions, Stanford won 16 medals in 2008.
The Circle of Excellence Awards Program, an annual contest held by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, awarded medals in 41 categories in areas such as alumni relations, electronic-media presentations, periodicals and student-recruitment marketing. According to the council's website, more than 3,500 entries were submitted to the various categories from 766 higher education institutions, independent schools and nonprofit educational organizations, such as museums, libraries and radio stations, worldwide. Judges awarded 363 bronze, silver and gold medals, and 15 grand gold medals, the top prize.
Based in Washington, D.C., with offices in London and Singapore, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education has a membership that includes nearly 3,400 colleges, universities, independent elementary and secondary schools, and nonprofit educational groups in 60 countries. The mission of the organization is to advance and support "educational institutions around the world by enhancing the effectiveness of the alumni relations, communications, marketing, fundraising and other advancement professionals who serve them."
