Remembering the founders

Addressing an audience that gathered Monday in Memorial Church for Founders’ Celebration 2008, President John Hennessy said Jane and Leland Stanford would have taken “great pride” in the Bing Overseas Studies Program, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in May. “Now located in 10 cities as well as seminars around the world, it prepares the students for something that the Stanfords thought was quite important: global experience,” Hennessy said. “They, after all, traveled extensively throughout Europe with their son, for whom this university is named, to broaden his education.” The half-hour Founders’ Celebration program included speeches by two students.
