Mass notification system to be tested
All faculty and staff must confirm that current contact information is listed in the university's online directory, StanfordYou, before Friday, May 2. This includes office numbers and mobile phones, a Stanford e-mail address and any home or alternate contact information.
The university is about ready to test AlertSU, a mass notification system that will enable everyone on campus to receive time-sensitive information via phone, e-mail and/or text message in the event of a serious emergency. The first test, for staff only, will be conducted on Tuesday, May 6.
Then on Wednesday, May 14, a full-scale test will be conducted, with an alert message being sent out to all faculty, students and staff. Earlier this month, all students were instructed to confirm or enter their contact information in Axess.
To update contact information in StanfordYou, at http://stanfordyou.stanford.edu, click on the link "Maintain your directory information." Ensure that all phone numbers conform to the 10-digit format (no five-digit on-campus extensions). And per university policy, anyone with a Stanford-provided cell phone must enter its number as the primary mobile phone contact.
If a home phone number is listed, anyone at home during the time of the test will get the alert.
The messages will be for test purposes only and will not require a response. But any problems receiving the messages should be reported through a follow-up survey online, at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=CtmYExYD7W2irEAA2VmKkA_3d_3d.
