Et toi, Elisabeth?
The Humanities Center held its 14th Annual Celebration of Stanford Authors in the Humanities on the ides of March last week. Daggers remained sheathed, but the rhetoric, as always, was playfully keen-edged. The celebration is as much a roast as toast. “This year we continue in that lighthearted—not to say irreverent—spirit,” John Bender, director of the Humanities Center, told the crowd of scholars, including President John Hennessy, who gathered at the center to peruse the humanists’ prodigious output. A list of the publications can be viewed at http://shc.stanford.edu/events/bookcelebration.htm.
