New fund for undergraduate teaching is announced
Faculty members interested in developing new learning materials and approaches to teaching undergraduate students soon will be able to apply for grants from the Hoagland Award Fund for Innovations in Undergraduate Teaching.
The newly created fund, which has a $2 million endowment, was announced Thursday by Provost John Etchemendy during the Faculty Senate meeting.
"We will be funding probably about three or four projects a year at the level of $20,000 to $30,000," Etchemendy said. "For exceptionally ambitious projects, the funding could go up as high as $50,000."
He said the funds could also be used to "adapt and implement proven approaches and innovative ideas that will result in change at the course or curricular level."
John Bravman, vice provost for undergraduate education, is expected to send out a request for proposals, with additional details about the award, before the end of the winter quarter.
