Free clinics looking for physicians to volunteer

Two free clinics operated by Stanford medical students are seeking community physicians to help them deliver health care to the patients they serve.

The Cardinal Free Clinics, which include the Arbor Free Clinic in Menlo Park and the Pacific Free Clinic in San Jose, are run by students and overseen by members of the medical school faculty. They provide free services to people with insufficient insurance. Many of the patients are immigrants who require translation services in Vietnamese, Spanish and other languages.

Currently, the Pacific clinic is open Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and the Arbor clinic is open Sundays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The two clinics serve about 2,000 patients annually.

Community physicians who wish to participate can receive continuing education credits for their efforts and can also apply for adjunct clinical faculty status at the medical school. For more information, contact Lars Osterberg, MD, at 493-5000 ext. 63683 or at larso@stanford.edu.
