When lightning strikes, it launches an electromagnetic signal that propagates
through the ionosphere to the Van Allen belts, and can propagate from one hemisphere
to another along the Earth's magnetic field lines. When played through a loudspeaker,
these signals have a distinct sound and are called whistlers.
