Campus hurricane response update
Students from the Gulf region now affected by Hurricane Rita are asked to contact the University if they are unable to arrive for the start of classes due to flight cancellations or other situations. Undergraduates should contact the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs at 650-725-1808. Graduate students are asked to contact their department or program directly.
Katrina Relief @ Stanford is collecting items for hurricane evacuees in the Gulf Coast region until noon Friday, Sept. 30. Items will be collected, packed and shipped to hurricane survivors in need via our partnership with UPS and the Rev. Cecil Williams of Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco. Items accepted include: toiletries (toothpaste, toilet paper, soap, sanitary napkins, ethnic hair products); diapers (infant diapers, adult diapers); and bedding and linen (blankets, towels, washcloths, pillowcases, sheets). For drop-off locations, visit http://osa.stanford.edu/katrina.
Approximately 27 undergraduate students from universities affected by Hurricane Katrina have begun arriving on Stanford University's campus as guest students for Autumn Quarter. Freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors from Tulane, Xavier, Dillard and Loyola universities will begin classes when instruction begins Monday, Sept. 26. All of these students have been encouraged to join Stanford's freshman class and transfer students in New Student Orientation activities this week.
In addition, five third-year students from Tulane Law School began taking classes when Stanford Law School's term began earlier this month. Graduate students from the hurricane-stricken region also have been offered temporary admission to the Business School and the schools of Humanities and Sciences, Engineering and Earth Sciences.
