Campuswide operations, services to be reduced during winter break closure
Much of campus to be shut down from Dec. 19 through Jan. 2; closures to conserve electricity and steam usage

Hours, staff and select utilities will be scaled back during the winter close, from Monday, Dec. 19, through Monday, Jan. 2, 2006. Campuswide, custodial services will be scaled back, and there will be no interdepartmental mail (ID Mail) pick up or delivery during the break. The Department of Public Safety will have deputies on duty around the clock for security and law enforcement services, but the business office will be closed.
Anyone on campus during the break needing police assistance can call 329-2413 to reach a deputy on campus, or pick up the red phone just outside the front entrance of the Department of Public Safety at 711 Serra St. Individuals should dial 9-911 from a campus phone or 911 from an off-campus phone or pay phone in case of an emergency, said Stanford Police Chief Laura Wilson.
Facilities Operations will not shut off power or water to any buildings over the winter close, unless it is necessary for a maintenance or renovation project. In those few cases the building occupants will be notified and fliers posted.
In order to save electricity and steam over the winter break, heat and ventilation will be turned off or reduced in buildings that are expected to be unoccupied. About 160 buildings on campus will participate in the energy curtailment to greater or lesser degrees, so staff should consult their building manager if they aren't aware of what is planned for their building, said Campus Energy Manager Susan Kulakowski.
