Cortez expedition sets sail

After nearly two years of planning, the Sea of Cortez Expedition and Education Project finally set sail from Monterey, Calif., on March 26 at 4:15 p.m. The 72-foot-long vessel, Gus D, began a two-month journey to Baja California and back. On board are a writer, photographer and two marine scientists from Stanford University. Their goal is to retrace the legendary 1940 voyage of author John Steinbeck and biologist Edward "Doc" Ricketts. You can follow their journey by logging onto http://www.seaofcortez.org.
