| Long explains new cloning technique
Sharon Long, dean of Stanford's School of Humanities and Sciences, and postdoctoral fellow Raka Mitra have discovered a technique that could dramatically streamline the search for genes in plants. The new technique -- called transcript-based cloning -- could enable scientists to identify specific genes in a matter of months, not years. In this video, the researchers explain how they used transcript-based cloning to isolate an important gene involved in establishing a symbiotic relationship between plants and nitrogen-fixing bacteria.
