describes how algorithms match ancient map’s fragments
Marc Levoy, Stanford associate professor of computer
science and electrical engineering, is using 3-D graphics technology to better
understand a map of third-century Rome. The result is one of the largest public
archives of digital models of a cultural artifact ever produced. Collaborators
on the Digital Forma Urbis Romae Project include the computer science and classics
departments at Stanford along with scholars of antiquity and museum officials
in Italy.
