Gravity Probe B launches

The Gravity Probe B experiment to put Einstein to the test launched April 20, 2004, at 9:57 a.m. A Boeing Delta II rocket sent the probe 400 miles high and into polar orbit from Vandenberg Air Force Base in Southern California. Stanford Professor Emeritus Brad Parkinson and Research Professor Francis Everitt, co-principal investigators, speak about the experiment while an audience in Stanford's Cubberley Auditorium reacts to liftoff.
