Elizabeth Bernhardt, professor of German studies, has been named dean of the Lower Row, Provost John Etchemendy announced. He noted that the Lower Row, which houses about 40 percent of the university's sophomores, has been "pretty much faculty free." Bernhardt, who has been an adviser to language houses, will work with the Lower Row's 19 houses.

David Montgomery, professor emeritus at the Graduate School of Business, on May 1 became dean of the business school at Singapore Management University. Montgomery was the Sebastian S. Kresge Professor of Marketing Strategy here before becoming emeritus in 1999.
