Reservations open for new, 112-room guest house at SLAC The new 112-room Guest House at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) will open in June, but reservations are being accepted -- and encouraged -- now. The Guest House will provide lodging for SLAC visiting researchers and for individuals here at the invitation of the university. Located on site at SLAC, the Guest House is within walking distance of all SLAC research facilities. "Each year more than 3,000 scientists from all over the world come to SLAC to carry out their research," said Neil Calder, SLAC communications director. "The Guest House will provide a new level of support for these researchers and create a social hub at the laboratory for the interchange of ideas and experiences." The Guest House, intended to provide overnight and short-term accommodations for individuals affiliated with either SLAC or Stanford, will include a 24-hour reception desk, a sundry/gift shop, an exercise room, a kitchenette, laundry facilities, daily housekeeping services and a lounge with a large-screen TV. It is owned by the university and operated by Student Housing Services. Guestrooms are configured in various sizes and bed types to accommodate the individual needs of a wide range of guests. Each room includes cable TV, Ethernet ports, telephone, coffee maker, desk, wardrobe, air-conditioning and a private bathroom. Mini-refrigerators, microwave ovens, hair dryers and roll-a-way beds also are available upon request. "Providing comfortable and affordable temporary housing accommodations for visitors has long been a concern for Stanford University," said Rodger Whitney, executive director of Student Housing Services. "The addition of 112 overnight guest rooms at the SLAC Guest House will greatly assist in addressing this issue." Reservations may be made at http://slacguesthouse.stanford.edu. Rates range from $50 to $110, depending on room type. For additional information, contact Enrique Jevons, housing supervisor and general manager of the SLAC Guest House, at 926-2800 or ejevons@stanford.edu.
