Hoover television program
available through Internet
BY SHARON STORM
The Hoover Institution now offers
regular television programming via the Internet with
streaming video.
"Uncommon
Knowledge", a program co-produced with San Jose PBS
affiliate KTEH (Channel 54) that features policy
discussions among Hoover fellows and other experts, now
can be viewed on the Hoover Institution Internet site
using Real Player or Windows Media Player Video. The
Hoover site is at http://www-hoover.stanford.edu.
When video applications
are streamed, they are delivered directly to a computer's
desktop. This lets viewers watch a broadcast as it is
being delivered and shortens the downloading time that is
normally associated with Internet programming. The video
window size is 320x240 pixels, a larger size than is
often available for this type of broadcast.
"Streaming video
makes 'Uncommon Knowledge ' more accessible and
represents yet another way we can communicate
ideas," said John Raisian Hoover Institution
director.
"Uncommon
Knowledge" broadcasts that aired during the winter
and spring on PBS affiliates can be viewed on the Hoover
web page. (Audio-only versions also are available for
these and earlier sessions using Real Audio.)
The program, which is
moderated by Hoover Research Fellow Peter Robinson, airs
in the Bay Area on KTEH on Saturdays at 5:30 p.m. Among
the guests appearing on the program are Nobel laureate
Milton Friedman and former San Jose Police Chief Joseph
McNamara. SR
