Diabetes month events planned

November is National Diabetes Month. In recognition of this, two informational events will take place at Stanford University Medical Center.

On Thursday, Nov. 13, a booth will be set up in the Stanford Hospital cafeteria hallway from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. by the Stanford Diabetes Resource Committee. The booth will offer free blood glucose testing and HbA1c tests, which can show how well a person’s diabetes has been managed over the past few months. Patient and professional handouts will also be available.

An educational program for the community, “Diabetes Head to Toe: Are You in Control?” will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 8 a.m. to noon in the auditorium of Packard Children’s Hospital. The free event will feature talks by experts on topics such as “Standards of Care for Diabetes,” “Feet Should Last a Lifetime,” “Keeping an Eye on Your Eyes” and “Islet Cell Transplants.” Free foot checks and HbA1c tests will be offered.

Though there is no charge to attend the Saturday program, seating is limited. To reserve a place, call 750-7951. The event is co-sponsored by the Mid-Peninsula Chapter of the American Diabetes Association and by Stanford University Hospital.
