Reminder: Area Code
change
Communication Services
once again offers a reminder that on Aug. 2 the 650 area
code will replace the 415 area code in the Stanford area.
The region currently covered by 415 will be split, with
areas south of Daly City/Brisbane picking up the new 650
area code and areas north (e.g., Daly City, San
Francisco, Marin) retaining the 415 area code.
Calls to Stanford:
Although your 7-digit Stanford telephone number will
remain the same (e.g., 723-1234), callers dialing you
from outside the new 650 area code will need to include
1+650 to reach you. This includes fax, modem and ISDN
calls. Be sure you inform anyone who may be calling or
faxing you routinely such as suppliers, vendors,
contractors, etc.
Calls from Stanford: You
may have to dial some calls differently from your
Stanford phone, too. For example, after the change, you
must dial 9+1+415 before calls to locations in San
Francisco, Marin County, parts of Daly City and Brisbane.
If you have speed call numbers programmed on your phone,
fax machine or modem that call these areas, you will have
to change them, too, to add the 9+1+415.
Department publications:
As you print or reprint department publications such as
such as business cards and letterhead, don't forget to
indicate the new area code. (Also, all university
buildings have been assigned a street address. For
example, Forsythe Hall is 275 Panama Street. You may want
to include this information on department publications,
too. Talk to your building manager to determine your new
street address.)
If you have any questions
about the 650 area code, call the Communication Services
Help Desk at 5-HELP. SR
